All optical control of exciton flow in a colloidal quantum well complex

Excitonics, an alternative to electronics, is becoming more promising for processing information since semiconductor electronics is rapidly approaching the end of Moore's law. Towards the development of excitonic devices, scientists in Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore) proposed an all-optical approach to manipulate the exciton flow in nanomaterials. Exciton flow switches among three distinct regimes with efficiencies of ~50%, ~90% and ~2%. This could lead to excitonic-based information processing with all-optical-control excitonic circuits.
