Cell-based test shows potential to predict which drugs and chemicals cause birth defects

EPA's ToxCast TM program evaluated the developmental toxicity risk of 1,065 compounds using Stemina Biomarker Discovery's human cell-based devTOX quickPredict test (devTOXqP). Agency scientists found that the devTOXqP platform predicted the potential for human developmental toxicity with an accuracy of 82%, where there was clear evidence of toxicity in humans or in animal studies. This suggests that devTOXqP is a useful tool for predicting developmental toxicants in humans and reducing the need for animal testing.
