Plantwatch: Falling leaves, hardy survivors and edible treats

The countryside is looking very different after this week's bitter winds sent leaves falling and trees are looking much more ragged. Some trees are completely bare, especially horse chestnuts, but others hang on to their leaves longer and are now changing colour – oaks have splashes of brown or yellow amongst green leaves, the green is fading on ash leaves, and when the sun shines on beech trees...
